Agricultural Bioproducts Innovation Program (ABIP)
The Agricultural Bioproducts Innovation Program (ABIP) is a multi-year program that seeks to mobilize Canada's creative talent in academia and in the private and public sectors and to integrate resources to build greater research capacity in agricultural bioproducts and bioprocesses. Through supporting networks and clusters, the program promotes research, development, technology transfer and commercialization activities in areas such as biofuels, other forms of bioenergy, industrial chemicals, biomaterials, and health products. BIOCAP Canada
BIOCAP Canada officially ceased operations on March 31, 2008. It was unable to secure the long-term funding necessary to continue to deliver on its mandate of finding biological solutions to the challenges of climate change and clean energy in Canada. The web site at www.biocap.ca will be maintained for a year or two to provide access to the reports that BIOCAP produced or commissioned, as well as providing a record of the contributions made by the many sponsors, researchers and staff that contributed to the organization during its ten year history.

Canadian BioEnergy Association (CANBIO)
CANBIO is a national, industry-driven, non-profit organization of individuals, businesses and non-governmental organizations interested in the development, promotion and use of bioenergy. MISSION: To promote utilization of sustainable biomass for the production of bio-fuels, heat and power.
Canadian Wind Atlas
Environment Canada's Wind Energy Atlas web site aims at developing new meteorological tools to be used by Canada's wind energy industry. It offers the possibility to browse through the results of the numerical simulations that were run on all of Canada in order to determine its wind energy potential. Consultants and the general public will find here valuable data about this promising renewable energy.
ecoAgriculture Biofuel Capital Initiative (ecoABC)
The ecoABC Initiative is a federal $200 million four-year program ending on March 31, 2011 that provides repayable contributions for the construction or expansion of transportation biofuel production facilities. Funding is conditional upon agricultural producer investment in the biofuel projects, and the use of agricultural feedstock to produce the biofuel.
Emerging Technologies Fund
Ontario has created a new fund to drive start-up investment in green technology companies and other high-tech businesses. The move is a response to the challenges emerging technology companies are experiencing in raising venture capital due to tightening credit markets. The long-term goal of the fund is to create a dynamic, vibrant venture capital community that will help Ontario companies grow and compete globally. Starting in July, 2009 the Emerging Technologies Fund will invest $250 million dollars over five years together with qualified venture capital funds and private sector investors. The fund will match small to medium private sector investments and receive an interest in companies it supports.
Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP)
Hydro One’s Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program provides business, farm and institutional customers of Hydro One Networks Inc. with an opportunity to realize their energy efficiency potential, and to receive attractive incentives to reduce the capital cost of energy efficient technologies.
The objective of the Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program is to initiate energy conservation and load management projects within the Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural and Institutional sectors by offering financial incentives.
For the business customers of Hydro One Networks, incentives are now available to assist in the implementation of conservation and demand management projects that will improve their bottom lines.
Timelines: Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers applying for Custom Project Incentives must seek pre-approval. Customers applying for Prescriptive Incentives have an option of seeking funding approval prior to installation or post installation of the energy efficiency measure(s).
Although the OPA Guidelines state that ERIP deadlines are based on a three-year commitment, the contract between Hydro One Networks and the OPA for the delivery of the program is reviewed on a yearly basis. Hydro One Networks, therefore, recommends that customers apply for incentives based on the following deadlines, as funding is limited and the program may not be offered beyond 2009:
- Applications submitted for pre-approval must be received by Hydro One Networks no later than December 31, 2009.
- Applications submitted for Prescriptive incentives after project installation must be received by Hydro One Networks no later than December 31, 2009.
- Projects must be completed and all supporting documentation received by Hydro One within 12 months of pre-approval.
Funding is limited and Hydro One Networks reserves the right to cancel the program at any time. For more information and application forms see: www.hydroonenetworks.com or your local utility

Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax credits (SR&ED)
Green energy implementation may qualify for tax credits. The SR&ED program is a federal tax incentive program, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes, and in all sectors to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada. It is the largest single source of federal government support for industrial R&D. The SR&ED program gives claimants cash refunds and/or tax credits for their expenditures on eligible R&D work done in Canada.
