Contest Details: A Day of Mentorship – Farm Business Planning
As a farm/ranch business operator, you know where you are at today; but it is never quite as easy to figure out where you need to be in the future and how you’re going to get there. The farm/ranch business environment has been changing rapidly in recent years and most likely will continue to change into the future. The risk of farming is high and you can’t afford to make mistakes that could have been avoided with better planning. Developing a strategic vision for the future and a business plan with strategies of how to get there are a common characteristic of successful farm/ranch businesses. They devote time and energy to planning for their future. A business plan has become a necessary tool for decision making financing and effective farm/ranch management.
There is an old saying; “if you don’t know which path to take; then any path will do.” The problem is that it might not take you to where you need to go. Gary Morton is a farm business management consultant and the Co-author of the CFBMC publication “Farm Business Planning: Understanding, Preparing and Using.” He works with his farm clients to help them define and redefine their pathways to the future. Gary’s goal is to help his clients do more with what they have already have and be more successful than they thought possible.
Your One-on-One Mentorship day with Gary, involves him coming to your farm and spending the day with you and your farm team to identify or clarify where you want to be in the future and what action steps are necessary to help you get there. Some of the things that you may want to explore with Gary are:
- Developing a Strategic Business Vision for Your Farm/Ranch
- Identifying New Opportunities for the Future
- How to Build on Your Strengths and Opportunities and Minimize Your Weaknesses and Threats
- How to Get Your Team on Board With the Farm/Ranch Vision
- How to Make Planning an Integral Part of Your Business Management Operations
Gary will send you a brief report and evaluation of the day’s session, as well as be available for follow up phone calls or e-mails to help you get the most out of his visit.
